Hollandsworth Presents Award to FSU
As a member of the Michigan State Board of Professional Surveyors, James Hollandsworth, P.S., P.E. had the honor and privilege of presenting the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Surveying Education Award to the Ferris State University (FSU) School of Engineering and Computing Technology – Survey Engineering Program on Friday, November 3, 2023. The annual award recognizes surveying programs that best reflect the organization’s mission to advance licensure for surveyors in order to safeguard the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
As an active member in both the National (NSPS) and the Michigan Society of Professional Surveyors, James attended last summer’s annual NSPS student competition held in Washington, D.C. where the NCEES award was announced. He shared the students’ joy at winning this prestigious award.
“It was wonderful to be a part of this experience with FSU students,” said James. “They were very professional and did an outstanding job.”
The award considers criteria such as student outcomes and involvement, outreach and recruitment, and the promotion of licensure. FSU’s submission focused on technology. Historically, FSU has been able to upgrade its computer labs with new computers and A/V equipment from donations and grants. However, it needed to upgrade classrooms where presentations take place. The $15,000 award will allow the department to upgrade classrooms with new computers and A/V equipment. FSU believes the investment in A/V and other technologies should be continuous to keep learning fresh with the latest collaboration tools.
